Autotelic

Can you speak greek? Me neither. But damn, their food sure is good. You know what is the opposite of good? Turkish food. Nah, just kidding.

Bad. Thats the opposite of good the last time I checked. Which is coincidentally the same time I checked the followers on my instagram page. Thus lead me to think of a word of similar meaning - unsuccessful.

That picture certainly does not have alot of likes. So, if your photos or music are not getting any likes, please jump off the bridge and do the world a favor, because if no one likes it that automatically means it doesn't matter and you don't matter.

Now, don't do that. Because here comes a little lesson.

A U T O T E L I C

Autotelic is a greek word which is made up out of two words. Auto meaning self and telos meaning goal.

Yeah, doesn't make much sense like that, does it?

Remember a little artist called Vincent van Gogh?

Not until 10 years after he started painting did he receive money for his work. Up to that point he never saw a dime for it. Everyone else would have given up. Said: "There is no use to go on like that."

But he didn't. He had an autotelic personality.

It refers to a self-contained activity, one that is done not with the expectation of some future benefit, but simply because the doing itself is the reward.

When the experience is autotelic the person is paying attention to the activity for its own sake. When it is not, the attention is focused on its consequences.

So, remember why you started doing what you are doing now? Is it still the reason why you are doing it? If not, pull back, relax and restart living your live, the autotelic way.
